How to Clean perfume bottles

  1. Empty the perfume bottle.
  2. Fill the perfume bottle with equal parts white vinegar and warm water. Gently shake the bottle to mix the liquid well. The liquid was left in the bottle for one hour before pouring out.
  3. Add warm water to the perfume bottle until it is close to 50-75%.
  4. Add one teaspoon of neutral dishwashing liquid, one teaspoon of uncooked rice. These two ingredients break down and remove grease and other sticky substances from perfume bottles.
  5. Gently shake the bottle again for about 30 seconds to allow the rice and dishwashing liquid to touch all parts of the bottle. Leave these ingredients in the bottle for an hour.
  6. Empty the bottle and rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. After the perfume bottle is dry it can be used again.
  7. If you plan to use a spray, soak the nozzle and nozzle in the vinegar mixture for 15 minutes. Take it out and let it dry overnight.

How to Dispose of Perfume Bottles

1. The outer cover of the perfume bottle

Remove the outer cap of the perfume bottle and unplug the spout. While holding the bottle on a level surface, use your finger to pull the spout straight up, setting the spout aside as it pops up.

Discard the cap and spout if you don't want them for decorative purposes. This step is for a standard sprayer top. Plug-in perfume tops do not have nozzles, as you usually apply perfume on yourself. You can just skip cleaning the bottle.

2. The valve of the perfume bottle

Cut off the plastic valve and loosen the metal around the neck of the perfume. Check the top of the fragrance and use a knife or sharp scissors to cut off any plastic, wrap the metal where the top is attached to the bottle, and discard the plastic.

Gently, use the knife edge to go around the base of the exposed metal connector. Pry the metal all the way to the top of the bottle until it starts to loosen. Be careful not to put too much pressure on the thin glass neck of the bottle, as this can cause the bottle to shatter.

3. The metal of the neck

Use needle nose pliers to remove the metal around the neck of the perfume. Hold the perfume bottle firmly with one hand and the loose metal with the other. Applying light pressure, pull the metal straight up until the bottle comes off. Be careful not to spill any leftover perfume in the bottle as you pull out the metal connector. Discard metal connectors in the trash.
